Susie Russell, Greens candidate for Lyne
Susie Russell, your Greens candidate for Lyne, knows how to speak up for the environment and to convince others that strong, energetic and happy communities grow from sustainable ecosystems. That’s the clear message that the Greens carry into the tough, concrete world of government. Susie knows what it takes to get that message across.
For over ten years, Susie has worked with other environmental advocates to save the region's natural assets, including some of Australia’s most majestic, ancient forests. She has been a coordinator of the North East Forest Alliance since 1995, and an executive member of the North Coast Environment Council for almost a decade.
Susie Russell has the political experience to translate good ideas into good public policy. She is a trusted policy advisor to Ian Cohen who was elected in 1995 as the first Greens member of the NSW Parliament. Susie has assisted Ian Cohen in framing pro-environment policy proposals, and lobbying politicians, bureaucrats and industry stakeholders to give these legislative reforms a fair hearing. That work requires community support, research, strategic thinking, diplomacy and determination. It also gets results. Environmental protection is now seen as a key issue in Australian politics and not just a dog-fight between loggers and greenies.
The Greens also lead the national debate on sustainable policy responses to climate change. For Susie Russell, the big issues facing all Australians at the 2007 federal election are climate change and our energy future:
“We need to save our oil for high end uses, and reshape our infrastructure development so that we produce much less greenhouse gas emissions. I’m sure people realise that time is running out. Everyone wants better leadership. Big changes are needed in the next decade. This is the top policy reform priority of the Greens. We don’t want greenwash like nuclear power and so called clean coal, we want smart renewable energy technologies. Australia could once again be a world leader in this field. I believe the Greens are doing more than any other party to ensure that we have a smooth and just transition to a clean and renewable lifestyle.”
Susie Russell is contesting the Federal seat of Lyne against incumbent Mark Vaile, the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, federal leader of The Nationals, and Australia's Minister for Transport and Regional Services. (Formerly Minister for Trade while the AWB paid bribes to Saddam Hussein’s regime.) She is a seasoned campaigner and has been on the ballot paper for the Greens in Lyne in 1996, the Senate in 1998, the NSW Legislative Council in 1999, and the State electorate of Port Macquarie since 1995.
“Only a strong vote for the Greens across Australia will see the two big political parties take the future of our planet seriously. Re-electing Greens Senator Kerry Nettle is key to restoring the balance in the Senate, which is fundamental to protecting our democracy. In the Lower House, you can double the value of your vote by voting ONE for the Greens and then giving your number 2 to a major party. That way, they still get the vote at full value but the fact it comes via the Greens sends the strongest signal that voters want real action on climate change and are saying no to nuclear power.
Vote Green in Lyne.
